Well, back then in 1999 i was in class brobably 3 .... i had arrived from shaggs from those side za lakipia west... So my arrival in nakuru was like a dream as it was my first time to travel in long journey, yani ilikuwa siku yangu ya kwaza kutravel na busi by the time zilikuwa zinaita kabiet, magutu and others funny funny names... i really hated traveling coz i had stories that those buses have accident lot of time, na sio accident ya maksudi but yakujitakia, had those bases were form the devil factory and they were not using petrol but human blood... to make the matters worse my first time kwa basi and am puking like no one business..ile tabia ya watu ati they must buy food staff while traveling especially long distances.... i was sure even if i cried milk my mum couldn't bother buying anything maybe biscuit za "fiyu" bob mpaka safari iishie.... enzi hizo we were eating with tips za teeth especially meno za hapa mbele isiishe niskie tamaa....... thats a problem i have even now i cant eat when traveling and thats why right now i hate traveling.
Now tukafika nakuru....the first person to smile at me was this guy kwa stage alikuwa nasell njugu karanga... nikauliza mamangu " Mummy kai adu a naikuru mariyaga jugu ati? matarutete makoni?" ( Mum how comes this Nakuru people eat peanut without peeling out?).. the reason was this guys teeth were similar to peanut skin yani meno ya brown .. my mom was like " tiga deto nyige nitume gari".... ( No more story get out of the bus).....
the real problem was my swahili it was a big problem i only new some common names like twende, kuja. Dont even imagine how i pronounced them Twende-twede, kuja- kunja, nimeshiba- nimechimba...Ile my Mum was proud to take her kid from shaggs to town coz lots of people thought my mum didn't have a child, so ile design she must show off with me... ( 4 real i was cute, so black white teeth obvious) the rules was i must speak swahili... by the time my mum was a Sunday school teacher in one church side za sewage ( if you know Nakuru )... I was the main attraction to children coz majority of the kids were my new neighbors and that have never seen a shaggs mundu in town so they were so interested to listen to me when talking ... One kid asked my name, i replied Naitwagwa Jedida ( with a big smile having complete a long swahili sentence) every time i talked i added "ga"... tuliedaga, nakuwaga, it was a real disaster but i was happy at least i knew something.....with in one week i was akasmall celebrity with new nickname " niashirie" ( niachilie)...
to me it was paradise new friends, lots liked me (coz my poor talking) , i was so social, good story teller than i was in shaggs....The place where we stayed was so congested watu wengi sana... where i was introduced to new playing games like kati, kalongonlogo, kamba, madoli and bean bag . New food types and names like" sweeti pombe , sukari nguru, gashata, slippers ( cake with blue band in b2n),simsim, mututu(bread crumbs)
unlike in Nyahururu... biggest town in lakipia east my grandmother would take me town once in a year under certain conditions either am sick or she is sick and she needed company... then sio ati ni kwenda kutembea, from stage to Hospital, hospital to stage this was coz in our place there was no car... it was only one, a private one pick up ile juu ni hema and a standing pole at the center, if it rain hauna bahati you have to push it ... goes ahead of you like 2 kilometers then it would waits for you muendele na safari and you have to book it early like 3-4 days before traveling and once it has gone in the morning around 5.30 am till 6.30 in the evening. So unless that day my grandmother aguzwe somewhere we go in a hotel...either uji na madazi ama chai na chapati.... lucky enough you get one madazi to eat during the long journey back home.
Thrilling Sweetheart..
